In 2009, renewed clashes between Maoist groups and the Nepalese put an end to the few years of peace and hope of economic growth and strengthened democracy in Nepal. Up to half of the Nepalese population lives below the poverty line, and the country is severely affected by climate change in the form of changed rainy seasons and glacier melt in the Himalayas.
CARE Danmark in Nepal CARE Danmark is working to protect human rights, especially for Dalits (the so-called untouchables), women, ethnic minority groups and disadvantaged farmers. CARE Danmark is also focusing on natural resource management and promoting democracy and good governance through local community support in Nepal.
