Uganda is one of the most fertile countries on the African continent. But over a number of years the lush forests have been felled in order to clear land for agricultural production. Therefore national parks have been created to protect the forests and biodiversity, but the creation of national parks has simultaneously meant that the people who lived in and off the forest have lost their livelihoods and vital sources of income. CARE is building the capacity of community-based organisations and educating them in forest legislation and activities to provide local people with sources of income.

CARE Danmark in Uganda

CARE Danmark's work in Uganda aims to improve living conditions for those people whose survival depends on natural resources, and is assisting local communities to hold the government accountable for the involvement of the community in decisions concerning the use and management of natural resources.
