Poul Erik Lauridsen – CARE International Advocacy Coordinator
Poul Erik Lauridsen is the Head of Delegation for CARE at the COP15 and the coordinator of CARE Denmark’s work with climate change. He has contributed to a number of publications on climate change adaptation and is an often used expert source for the Danish print and broadcasting media regarding climate change.
Key areas of expertise: Overall state of negotiations; adaptation; REDD; role of developing countries in UNFCCC negotiations; climate change in developing countries.

Charles-Ehrhart

Dr. Charles Ehrhart

CARE International Climate Change Coordinator
Charles Ehrhart is leading CARE’s response to climate change in 70 developing countries and is a pioneer in the field. He is the author of ‘In Search of Shelter’, a report on the effects of climate change on human migration and displacement, as well as a study on the ‘Humanitarian Implications of Climate Change.’
Key areas of expertise: Migration and displacement; implications of climate change in developing countries.

Christina-Chan

Christina Chan - CARE USA Senior Policy Analyst

During the COP15, Christina Chan will lead the advocacy work on adaption to climate change. Christina Chan is a researcher and analyst on climate change policy and coordinates CARE USA’s climate change advocacy team that contributes to policy processes at both the US and global level.
Key areas of expertise: Adaptation negotiations; UNFCCC; US role in negotiations; policy processes; disaster risk reduction in Nepal.

Morten-Fauerby-Thomsen

Morten Fauerby Thomsen – CARE Denmark Deforestation and Forest Management Negotiator (REDD)

Morten Fauerby Thomsen will be leading CARE’s negotiations on solutions to deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) and how to secure the rights and needs of those dependant on forestry. Morten Fauerby Thomsen is CARE Denmark’s Programme Officer for East Africa.

Key areas of expertise: UNFCCC Negotiations on REDD and adaptation; Denmark’s role in negotiations; climate change in East Africa.

Tonya-Rawe

Tonya Rawe – CARE USA Policy Advocate
Tonya Rawe is a Policy Advocate on the Government Relations team with CARE’s Policy and Advocacy Unit in Washington, D.C., where her work consists of analyzing US policy and advocating on key legislation. Tonya Rawe has a master’s degree in international relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

Key areas of expertise: US Congress; US role in negotiations; UNFCCC negotiations on Adaptation; REDD and Finance.

Raja Jarrah – Climate Change Advisor (REDD)
Raja Jarrah is currently overseeing pilot projects in Guatemala, Peru and Brazil for rural communities to generate carbon credits from activities that improve their livelihoods. His expertise lies in Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD). Raja Jarrah has been CARE’s representative on this area in the UN climate change conferences leading up to COP15.
Key areas of expertise: UNFCCC negotiations on REDD; carbon markets in developing countries; renewable energy and community agroforestry in rural areas.

Marcos-Athias-Neto Marcos Athias Neto – CARE USA Director of Partnerships and Special Initiatives on Climate Change
Marcos Athias Neto leads CARE’s efforts to build climate change partnerships with especially environmental organizations. He is a previous Programme Director for CARE in Central America.
Key areas of expertise: Climate change implications in developing countries and Latin America in particular; corporate partnerships; agriculture and climate change.

Phil-Franks Phil Franks – CARE International Network and Carbon Finance Coordinator
Phil Franks is the head of CARE’s international climate change network which connects projects from Asia, Africa and Latin America. He has previously lived in Malawi, Uganda, Nigeria and Kenya working with environment-related programs in all four countries.
Key areas of expertise: Forest management and conservation; social safeguards on REDD; climate change and development.

Sharon Moynihan – CARE UK Advocacy Manager

Sharon Moynihan will work closely with the EU and UK delegations on CARE’s key areas on adaptation to climate change and REDD.

Sofia Sprechmann – CARE Deputy Director for Latin America and the Caribbean

Sofia Sprechmann will be working with the Latin American delegation on the questions of adaptation to climate change and REDD.

  Angie Dazé – CARE International Climate Change CARE International Climate Change Adaptation Coordinator
Angie Dazé is the coordinator of CARE’s climate change adaptation activities. She is also engaged in developing learning programs on community-based adaptation, particularly in Africa, and has developed practical tools for adaptation to climate change.
Key area of expertise: Adaptation to climate change in developing countries.

Julie Webb – Climate Change Advisor for CARE Australia

Julie Webb is the climate change advisor for CARE in Australia. At the COP15 she will be working with the Australian delegates on the questions of adaption and REDD.
Key areas of expertise: Climate change adaptation; REDD; climate change in Australia. She also has experience in Nepal, Laos and the Pacific.

Ulrich Bang – CARE International Sustainable Energy Advisor in Ghana

Ulrich Bang develops and implements sustainable and poverty related energy projects as well as standards and methods for managing them. Ulrich Bang has previously been a chief advisor at the Danish Energy Association working with energy policies in the Danish Parliament and the European Union
Key areas of expertise: Sustainable energy and sustainable development, Carbon Markets, renewable energy sources.

  Andreas Zahner - Program and policy advisor for poverty and environment, CARE Austria
Andreas Zahner is an expert on the effects of climate change on vulnerable people especially women. Andreas Zahner is overseeing community based adaptation programs and he has a long time experience of working with CARE on the area of development and environmental programs.

CARE Experts from the South

CARE has also invited a selected group of experts and staff from the countries that are most affected by climate change. They have both expert knowledge and firsthand experience with the climate changes happening in their country and are all available for the media.

 

Ghana


David Sumbo – CARE Ghana Program Coordinator for Agriculture and Food Security

David Sumbo is currently the coordinator of CARE’s programs in northern Ghana which includes ensuring the right to sustainable forestry for some of Ghana’s poorest people. David Sumbo has a master’s degree in development studies specialized in agriculture from the University of Ghana and has done research in how to adapt to food insecurity.
Key areas of expertise: Climate change adaptation; forest management.

  Abdul-Razak Saeed – Research and Advocacy Officer
Abdul-Razak Saeed does research, advocacy and lobbying for recognition of forest and local community rights in the climate change negotiations for Civic Response in Ghana. Abdul-Razak Saeed holds a master’s degree in Environmental Change and Management from University of Oxford.
Key areas of expertise: REDD; management of natural resources; sustainable development.

Mozambique
 

Becky Myton – CARE Mozambique Agriculture and Natural Resources Coordinator

Becky Myton is the Agriculture and Natural Resources Coordinator for CARE in Mozambique and has 33 years experience with environmental development. Becky Myton is also a university professor teaching ecology and has previously worked for USAID, UNDP and the World Bank doing environmental impact assessment.

Kenya
Cynthia-Awuor

Cynthia Awuor – CARE International Regional Climate Change Coordinator for East and Central Africa Based in Kenya

Cynthia Awuor coordinates CARE’s climate change projects in East and Central Africa. Her focus is on capacity building of the most vulnerable people and development of various tools for climate change adaptation.

Key areas of expertise: Climate change adaptation in Kenya and East and Central Africa in general; capacity building.

Vu Thi Bich Hop – Executive Director for Vietnamese NGO

Vu Thi Bich Hop is the executive director of the Center for Sustainable Rural Development and has worked with sustainable agriculture and climate change in Vietnam for many years. She is also the chair of the Vietnamese NGO and Climate Change network and the chair of the alliance of seven Vietnamese NGO-networks.
Key areas of expertise: Climate change adaptation; REDD.

Nepal
 

Maksha Ram Maharjan – CARE Nepal Natural Resources & Climate Change Advisor

Maksha Ram Maharjan is responsible for helping Nepal’s poorest people finding ways to cope with climate change as the Natural Resource Environment and Climate Change Advisor for CARE in Nepal. He has 20 years of experience with deforestation work under community forestry in Nepal.
Key areas of expertise: Deforestation; REDD, climate change adaptation.

  Bhola Prasad Bhattarai – General Secretary of local forest NGO
Bhola Bhattarai is the general secretary of the Nepalese NGO FECOFUN, an umbrella organisation of community forestry user groups in Nepal representing around 8 million people. FECOFUN’s mission is to promote and protect the rights of the forest users in way sustainable for the environment.
Key areas of expertise: REDD.

Muhammad Teguh Surya – Head of Environmental NGO

Muhammad Teguh Surya is the head of campaign for the largest Indonesian environmental advocacy NGO, WALHI. WALHI works on a wide range of issues including conflict over access to natural resources, indigenous rights, deforestation and climate change.

Adolphine Byayuwa Muley – Founder and Coordinator of local NGO

Adolphine Byayuwa is the founder and coordinator of UEFA, a non-profit organisation working to assist marginalised and indigenous groups in DR Congo - including doing environmental work with women.
